Can you please identify the species in the attached photo?  We saw it over the weekend near Capitol Tower.  My husband's foot is in the photo for scale.

Many thanks for your assistance!!

Question : Unknown Butterfly

Chinese_Graveyard_200Dear Sir,
I have attached a couple of photos of a butterfly I photographed a
month ago in the Chinese Graveyard beside the ECP, and I can't seem to
find any reference to it in the butterfly books I have.  In size it is
similar to the Blue Glassy Tiger or Tree Nymph. I  wonder if you would be able to identify it for me.  Many thanks.

Yours sincerely,
Neil

Hi Neil,The butterfly in you picture is Lime Butterfly - Papilio demoleus.

This is a common urban butterfly in Singapore as its larva feeds on the leave of Lime plant.

Question : Caterpillar ID

NavinBrian@gmailcom-DSC_0330-400bGood Day!

I need help identifying this particular caterpillar (see attached).

It was found feeding on one of my Anthurium plants. It has now turned into a brown (dead leaf colour) cocoon near the bottom of the plant where all the leaf petioles originate.

Thanks!
Best Regards
Navin

From The Butterfly Guys
Hi Navin,

The caterpillar in your photo is that of a moth, specifically a Hawk Moth belonging to the Sphingidae family.  The tell tale sign of caterpillar form this family is the 'tail' behind.

The name of this moth is Eupanacra elegantulus.  You can find out more about this moth at Gan’s blog entry on the life history of this moth.
